We understand that recent US tariff announcements may have raised concerns about your UK purchases. However, we want to reassure you that the existing $800 de minimis exemption remains unchanged. This means that 98% of shipments we handle will not be affected by the new tariffs.
You can continue shopping from the UK with confidence, knowing that most personal shipments to the USA will still enter tariff-free under the current rules.
The US "de minimis" rule, or Section 321 of the Tariff Act of 1930, allows duty-free entry for low-value imports (currently under $800 per day, per consignee) with simplified customs procedures. Typically, shipments below this threshold will not see any impact from the new tariffs announced by President Donald Trump on 2nd April 2025.
For shipments that are otherwise subject to duties, a 10% tariff on goods of UK origin has been announced, with 10% being the new baseline for global imports to the US. This means the UK will remain among the lowest cost countries to import from, compared to EU imports which will face a 20% tariff or Japanese imports at 24%.
We are still waiting for full details to see how the new tariffs are implemented and what it might mean for our US-based customers.
